Multidimensional family therapy for young adolescent substance abuse: twelve-month outcomes of a randomized controlled trial

Liddle's MDFT (4-6 mo family-focused outpatient treatment) vs CBT in n=224 adolescent SUD. MDFT showed superior reductions in cannabis use, abstinence rates and externalizing problems at 12 months, with greater effects in higher-severity subgroup. Established MDFT as evidence-based practice; replicated across US, NL (INCANT trial - Rigter 2013), DE cohorts. One of the few SUD treatments with non-US European replications.
