Validity of the CRAFFT substance abuse screening test among adolescent clinic patients

Validation of CRAFFT (Car-Relax-Alone-Forget-Family-Friends-Trouble), a 6-item adolescent SUD screening tool, in a primary-care sample of 538 14-18 year olds. Sensitivity 0.76, specificity 0.94 for any DSM-IV substance-related diagnosis at cutoff ≥2. CRAFFT now recommended by AAP Bright Futures, USPSTF and SBIRT protocols as the standard adolescent SUD screen. Successive versions (CRAFFT 2.1+N) updated for nicotine/ vaping and electronic delivery.
