5-year comparison of RYGB outcomes: adolescents (Teen-LABS) vs. adults
(LABS-1). Adolescents had GREATER remission of T2D (86% vs. 53%) and
HTN (68% vs. 41%), but more re-operations and nutritional deficiencies.
Mortality higher in adolescent cohort (1.7% vs. 0.4%) - though largely
from non-surgical causes. Reinforces case for early surgery in severe
adolescent obesity, with strict long-term follow-up requirement.
