Teen-LABS prospective multicenter cohort (n=242 adolescents). At 3 years
post-RYGB or sleeve gastrectomy: BMI -27%, remission of T2D (95%), HTN
(74%), dyslipidemia (66%). Nutritional deficiencies common (iron 57%);
13% required additional operation. Established bariatric surgery as
legitimate option for severely obese adolescents with comorbidities.
Equity concern: most US trial samples non-Hispanic white; LatAm data
sparse.
